Hello all. Hope you each had a nice weekend! Saturday was interesting weather wise, as it was sunny and beautiful when I left Cadillac, and when I arrived at Merritt, it was soaked with puddles everywhere. Things cleared up late in the evening and we had a nice car count and good turnout for Fan Appreciation Night. Our grounds crew accidentally clipped the scoring loop line while weed whacking last week, which forced us to skip qualifying while that was fixed, and was good to go for racing. The autograph session went well, and we want to thank all the racers who brought goodies, candy and signed for the fans. Always cool to see.
Hope you all had an enjoyable weekend! Last Saturday, we hosted 108 race cars on our Champion Recognition Night. Thank you to all the competitors who came out and put on a great show for a solid crowd. Special thank you to the former speedway champs who came to the front stretch pre-race and the meal served as well. It was also my pleasure to recognize the Ancel family, as we honored the late Rod Ancel. It was a joy to have them all out at the track last week, as we presented them with a photo, as well as flowers and had a group photo taken.
Hello all. Hope your weekend was great! Last Saturday we had some beautiful weather, and our first ‘regular’ night of racing in several weeks. The racing was outstanding as well, but the fan count was a bit light from what we expected. Maybe too many specials? Anyway, hopefully we can turn that around moving forward for the final five weekends of racing.
Merritt Speedway is pleased to announce Gilboe’s Lock and Safe has signed on as the newest partner to the track for the duration of 2017 and beyond. Happy Monday Merritt family! Another not ideal Saturday weather wise hit us with dark clouds until closer to race time. Fortunately, it did get sunny and we had a nice turnout of fans in the stands to watch what was a great night of racing and value!
And just like that, it’s the middle of July and two of our bigger shows are in the rearview mirror. Now we have a few ‘normal’ weeks in a row, first with the Great Lakes Super Sprints coming to town this weekend.
Good afternoon racing family. Boy Saturday came quick, after a big fourth of July holiday weekend three days that we had. This past Saturday turned out to be the perfect weather for a night of racing, and we had a full lineup once again! The Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt joined our already stacked show and it all went really well.
Wow! What a weekend. Thank you so much to all the drivers, teams, fans and employees that joined us for what was a jammed packed high excitement weekend! It was certainly one of my best events and I think everyone was surprised with how great the turnouts were each night.
Merritt Speedway has announced that Engine Pro Sprints On Dirt will make up last Saturday’s rain out on July 8th.With the announcement, SOD has been able to move the MAHLE/Clevite Beyond Limits Challenge back to Merritt, maintaining the series’ format of five races at five different speedways.
Last Saturday was a difficult decision for me having to cancel. It was down pouring at the speedway from about 2:30 to 4:00, and the track was getting pretty well saturated. After the attempt to race on June 17 and winding up with a weak car count and fans, it made me more gun-shy than I usually am at trying to still race.
Merritt Speedway officials are ready for a huge weekend of racing, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday this coming weekend. Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort, recognizing the size of the weekends slate of events, signed on to be the title sponsor of all racing over the independence weekend of racing at Michigan’s Premier Dirt Track.

Today we start on a sad note. On opening night, we held a raffle fundraiser for Deb and Steve Bowman, and if you were in attendance last Saturday, you heard the news just before our moment of silence. Sadly, longtime Merritt employee and loyal fan Steve Bowman passed away last Thursday, and we would like to express our deepest condolences to the entire family.
I hope you all had an enjoyable weekend, and also took time to remember the lives lost fighting to protect our freedom. It was our honor to recognize members of the armed forces last Saturday, and will never forget those who have been lost.

The speedways Cadillac Tire Center UMP Modifieds always put on extraordinarily entertaining races on the clay oval, and that will be ramped up even more in 2017.
Hello everyone! The season has officially arrived. Very exciting time. This past Saturday we held our first Test & Tune, and had an impressive 68 cars on the property! The track had to be in as good of shape as I’ve seen it since I took over the track in spring of 2015. We have one more practice schedule for this Wednesday from 5:30 to Dusk. The new American Ethanol Mini Wedge track in the infield between turns 1-2 is in place and is undoubtedly going to be a riot for the kids. We’re really excited about this edition, and it was already fun watching them practice last Saturday!
This weather is moody and must be one of the stranger winter and spring seasons I can remember. Working in the rain and mud slows things down a bit and we need the property to start drying out. With that said though, the new aluminum bleachers are 95% complete and ...
Merritt Speedway officials are pleased to announce the newest partner to the tracks already illustrious group of longstanding sponsors. Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort has agreed to be a leading partner at Michigan’s Premier Dirt Track beginning with the 2017 race season.
Happy April everybody! Hope your spring break was safe and enjoyable if you took a trip with the family someplace. The sun is starting to show itself more and more, and shorts have started to work their way out from the bottom of the drawers. That can only mean one thing… racing is here!
Good to see the snow about wrapped up here in Michigan, at least hopefully. Tomorrow I will be meeting with a grandstand assembly crew to review the upcoming project and prepare for what will be a busy spring. The bleachers and Musco lights will be set to go in soon and it should really change the look and feel of Merritt Speedway in 2017!
Hello racers! Just a quick update on the latest happenings from our end. I hope the work on your race cars is coming along well as we prepare for what really does look to be a great 2017 season at Merritt Speedway.
Hi everybody! Are you excited? I'm excited! Racing season is almost here! With less than 2 weeks to the start of NASCAR's Daytona Speedweeks and less than 3 weeks to the Daytona 500, opening night at Merritt Speedway will be here before you know it!
Hello everyone! It’s been a few weeks since my last thoughts update. I hope everyone’s off-season is going well. With this unseasonably warm winter, it has me in race mode already, and I’m guessing many of you feel the same way.
Merritt Speedway recently trimmed some of the fat from their longtime slogan, formerly known as ‘Northern Michigan’s Premier Dirt Track’. Going in to the 2017 season, Merritt Speedway will simply use ‘Michigan’s Premier Dirt Track’, making a bold commitment to both racers and fans across the state.
