Hello Merritt Speedway friends,
This weather is moody and must be one of the stranger winter and spring seasons I can remember. Working in the rain and mud slows things down a bit and we need the property to start drying out. With that said though, the new aluminum bleachers are 95% complete and will be done mid-week which is exciting. There truly isn’t a bad seat in the house now, and a lot more seats for the big shows too. Our new Musco track lighting is also installed and will be undergoing tests soon. For now, the old lighting as well as the new LED lights are both in place in the infield and should really create quite an enjoyable viewing and racing experience.
Last week I had the pleasure of speaking with Jennifer Johnson-Kiel, the young lady who was injured last fall at the track. I am happy to report that she is doing very well, is back to work and all finished with therapy. Dorene Baldwin’s knee is better, and will be returning to her same post again 2017! Troy Baldwin is also good and finishing school. Les is ready and roarin’ to get back to the track and re-assume his post at the pit gate. J.T. Anderson has had a trying offseason, with the accident as well as a fire that claimed his building. After talking with Becky Anderson, they are in the midst of cleaning up from the fire, and J.T. will undergo shoulder surgery on May 17 as well. We thank everyone for keeping each person in your thoughts and prayers and look forward to having them all back at the track this coming season as one chapter closes and another opens.
As was previously announced, the 2017 Merritt Speedway Awards Ceremony will be held at the beautiful Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort, in Mount Pleasant. We have put together the opportunity for guests to book a room with a Merritt Speedway group rate. Those rooms are available beginning today, and can be reserved by calling 1.877.232.4532 and telling them you are with the Merritt Speedway group. Alternatively, rooms may be reserved online, and using code MS111117 in the Group box. This is going be a fantastic evening of celebration and reflection that you will not want to miss. Please note the banquet this year is one week later, Saturday, NOVEMBER 11TH (NOT Nov. 4).
The final stages of sponsorship work are being completed and we are very happy with the response that we’ve received. Both sponsors increasing their support for the track, as well as numerous brand new partners for 2017 is very exciting for all involved. Banners, decals, flyers, schedules, etc. are all in production and opening night, May 20, will be here before you know it! Now if the weather will cooperate, we will really be off and running!
Hope each of you are having a nice spring and look forward to seeing you at the track very soon. Until then,
