12-13-16 (Lake City, MI) - Merritt Speedway is pleased to announce the touring DIRTcar Summer Nationals Hell Tour will make their return in 2017. Following one of the more successful race event nights of the 2016 season, both the Hell Tour group as well as Merritt Speedway officials saw a natural fit to reschedule for the upcoming year.

In addition to the return of the Hell Tour event, Gaylord, Michigan’s Diesel Freak returns as one of the speedways primary title sponsors. New last season, Diesel Freak came onboard to see what the racing is all about at Merritt Speedway. After a very successful first year of partnership, Ryan Lalone and his crew at Diesel Freak decided to step up, now as the title sponsor of the Thursday, July 13 Hell Tour Nationals race.

The big Thursday race, will again tag on to the front end of the annual Wood Tic Weekend at Merritt Speedway. The 29th Annual Wood Tic will take place on July 13, 14, and 15. Some of the top Late Model drivers in the region will compete against Merritt Speedway regulars like Eric Spangler, Greg Gokey, Brandon Thirlby, Chad Foster, Adam Erickson and others, to name just a few.

“I loved having the big guns of the UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals with us, both in the Late Models and Modified divisions last season,” Mike Blackmer, Merritt owner stated. “To have a tremendous supporter in Diesel Freak step up to help bring this event back to Northern Michigan, is a fantastic solution and perfect fit for all involved.”

The touring series consists of events held in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Michigan. Last year, Ryan Unzicker held off Bobby Pierce to collect the $5,000 winner’s payday. Fans and teams are encouraged to plan once again, with this event to take place on Thursday, July 13, leading into Wood Tic weekend.
